First day of SIGDS was great and exhausting. The first half of the day my professor, John Caserta, gave us a brief survey on infographics. We got to look at pieces done by heavy hitters such as, Lisa Strausfield, David McClandless, and Ben Fry. The second half of the day Hanaan Rosenthal and Spiros P..(something very greek)… presented how they approach data visualization. Han and Spiros are very computer oriented and in many ways they seem more like programmers than designers. Nevertheless, the graphics they create through their complex code is, no doubt, elegant. A lot of what they were saying was way over my head- still cool though. After class I had to move my car to a different lot. While I was out I went by Whole Foods to get some food for the room. It started raining on the 15 minute walk home and the bags disintegrated. Luckily a friendly Rhode Islander gave me a reusable shopping bag for the rest of the walk. appreciate it lady. I got home and did some photoshop work and then input a bunch of data for class tomorrow.
